Natural hematite is sometimes weakly magnetic, but won't attract metals or other pieces of hematite.  Natural hematite is a relatively hard oxide mineral, ferric oxide (Fe2O3), constitutes the most important iron ore because of its high iron content   Magnetic hematite is a synthetic stone produced by heating a powdered mixture of iron oxide and other materials, blending them together, pressing into the desired shape (pendants, beads, etc), then heating the shapes in a way that bonds and magnetizes the material.

Research at the University of Virginia during 2008 showed that there is at least some truth to the oft-cited claim that magnets can increase the flow of blood, thus providing more oxygen and nutrients to injured tissue. Researchers have shown that a mild magnetic field can cause the smallest blood vessels in the body to dilate or constrict, thus increasing the blood flow and suppressing inflammation, a critical factor in the healing process.

While they’re generally safe, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health warns that magnetic devices can be harmful for certain people. They caution against using them if you use a pacemaker or insulin pump, as they might cause interference.  

Also, do not store your magnetic jewellry with magnetic cards (bank cards, bus cards, etc.), mobile phones, computers or other electronic devices.
